OVERVIEW

Application

Overview:  Wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) nursing is a well defined nursing practice and has been recognized by the American Nursing Association as one of the specialties in nursing.  The depth of the educational preparation in each specialty, clinical practicums as well as content on professional practice, are crucial to this multifaceted role.  WOC nurses are prepared to serve as resources in their practices and are able to provide a marketing advantage and serve as a revenue source. WOUND, OSTOMY, CONTINENCE, FOOT & NAIL NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAM

Application

The average cost for a student to complete the entire program is about $6,000.00.  The scholarship can help to defer costs such as tuition, application fees, textbooks, etc.   Applications may be submitted upon acceptance to the program, during the program or immediately after completion of the program with funds distributed upon submission of a copy of the certificate of completion of the program.

ADVANCEMENT OF NURSING PRACTICE

Application

Advancement of Nursing Practice represents the future of nursing and professional development.  As students are enrolled in these programs, they are empowered to view the world that enables them to question current practice, create new nursing knowledge and improve the delivery of nursing and health care services.  This scholarship provides some support toward the pursuit of an advanced practice degree such as Doctorate of Nursing Practice, Masters of Science in Nursing, or a Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing.   It is also open to those who have an Associate Degree in Nursing to obtain their BSN which will enable them to enroll in a WOC Education Program.  Applications are submitted upon acceptance to the program with funds distributed upon submission of a copy of the certificate of completion of the program.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Application

As of 2017 the State Board of Nursing will require 30 contact hours for licensure renewal in 2019.  This scholarship can be utilized to assist the applicant to pay for continuing education such as WOCN Conference, Symposium of Advanced Wound Care or a CE offering pertinent to the wound, ostomy or continence specialty.  Submission of a CE certificate is required.

CERTIFICATION

Application

is one component of credentialing and is a process by which a non-governmental agency or association grants recognition of competence to an individual who has met certain predetermined standards specified by that agency or association.  The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) supports and endorses the concept of voluntary, periodic certification by examination for all wound care, ostomy care, continence care and foot care nurses.  This scholarship application can be used to subsidize the cost of certification/recertification  to the area(s) of specialty.
